15cm (6″)

10-20cm (4-8″)

Sow indoors on the surface of fresh seed compost, sprinkling with compost to cover. Keep compost damp but not waterlogged. Place pot or tray inside a propagator or seal inside a clear polythene bag at 21-24°C until germination in 14-21 days. Do not exclude light. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 9cm pot (31/2″) pots and grow on in cooler, bright conditions under cover. After all risk of frost as passed, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions, then plant out, 10cm (4″) apart.

Another first-time sowing for me. I grew on small plug plants of these in a wall basket back in 2020. I mixed two lobelia with one bacopa and it was something of a fight to the death. The lobelia won. It’s not really a trailing plant but it did put on quite a display, and I didn’t know any better back then. Plus, I think the nursery I got the plants from had them in the ‘trailing’ section. The bacopa trailed better, but couldn’t seem to keep up with the lobelia.
