Sow outdoors in trays of moist compost. Sew thinly, do not cover seed with compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Leave trays in a sheltered position outside, out of direct sunlight. Protect trays from birds and mice. When large enough transplant to individual 7.5cm pots. Transplant 25cm apart in flowering position from summer onwards. Autumn sowings from early spring. Flowers May to August the following year.
Seeds may require cold temperatures before germination, which can be erratic.
I’m a huge fan of this gorgeous plant. The photos above are from my pot I planted in 2020, which flowered in 2021. It’s in the same pot now, but was decimated when we moved house so I’ve decided to try and grow some more from seed. It did very little in it’s first year but after I divided it and replanted around the small spruce it went absolutely bonkers. It was at the front of the south facing bungalow, which was quite shady in the afternoons due to the trees on a neighbouring propery. Highly recommend this great little plant.
